Poker Is a Game of Streaks

I don't think anyone can really deny that statement. Variance can be huge in a lot of fields, but poker certainly demonstrates how impactful it can be. Some people call variance "Lady Luck." Despite the fact that casino games are slanted to favor the house, variance (or Lady Luck) can determine in any session, month, or year that a craps player is going to win money. Variance also determines that Phil Hellmuth will not win a major tournament or Tiger Woods will not sink a putt (probably a lot less variance in the second case).

Variance decided to pick up the golden horseshoe and clock me right across the head with it sometime in the last day or two. I have played five "sessions" since then at relatively low stakes, ranging from $1/$2 to $10/$20. I won in all five sessions, and I am up around $800 since Tuesday night. I want to emphasize that I did not just plop down at the big table and win 10 hands then leave. This is over the course of maybe 600 hands. I want to stay guarded, because I've had rushes like this in the past that resulted in far too accelerated stakes and a quick relapse. However, without hazarding too much I'd like to say, "It feels good to be back."
